Internal-scapes

Exploring the space between actual and conceptual representation, these oil on canvas paintings depict organs, muscles, and viscera in a painterly and colorful space that alludes to a transcending reality. Muscular shapes suggesting the human heart push against bright fields of variegated color. Elegant rib cages form arabesques that enclose delicate traceries of veins and breathing lungs. Sensual and rich colors ensure that the represented body begins to hold symbolic references to things beyond itself. To the landscape, to architecture, to the soul.

Towards 2001-2002 the large scale oils became modest and easel sized. The color more restrained, one jewel tone contrasting with glazes of inky black.
